Just to play devils advocate, many people have argued that Sickles actions actually saved the Army of the Potomac. By not being where the Confederates thought he was, he completely messed up their time table. The III Corps sucked in a lot of the Confederate effort on the 2nd and really took the steam out of them, so that when they finally hit Cemetery Ridge, they had lost all the momentum they started out with in the Wheatfield and the Peach Orchard. I think its impossible to prove, but its an intriguing thought. Mark
