It is interesting to think about. I think there are too many variables that keep us from ever really knowing how the Northern and Southern armies would have matched up with European powers. Things like terrain, where they were fighting (southerners were fighting in their own backyards, that tends to make one fight pretty hard), are naval forces considered, and things like that. However, being an American and seeing the tremendous sacrafice those men went through, I'm with pender. I don't think any country in the world could have taken on the North and South together and won.
