My great great grandfather, Daniel Mose and his brothers Jacob & Alfred were captured at Harpers Ferry, VA on September 15, 1862 by Stonewall Jackson and his army. They belonged to the 1st Regiment Potomac Home Brigade Co. A, under the leadership of Colonel William P. Maulsby. They were sent to Camp Parole, MD. that same month and were there until late spring of 1863. I'm more than certain that Masten Dashiel entered Camp Parole, MD while my great great grandfather was still there with his brothers.

Thanks for sharing this letter. Camp Parole intrigues me and I'm always interested in any information on what it must of been like for the soldiers.

My great great grandfather went on to fight at Gettysburg, PA and eventually died at the age of 84 in Hagerstown, Maryland in March of 1918. He's buried in the Maryland section at the Antietam National Cemetery in Sharpsburg, MD.

All the brothers survived Camp Parole and the War. His brother Alfred went as far as to rejoin the war effort with the Loudoun Virginia Rangers, Co. B.

Warm Regards,
Mark
