What does everyone use to research their ancestors during the war. I've been using regimental rosters....National Achive information to piece together my Yankee ancestors from Indiana and Illinois. On Fold3.com I've found a lot of info about my southern ancestors but little if any on my Yank ancestry. Which makes me wonder if Fold3.com is run by unreconstructed Rebs But is there any other sites that have records information on the Civil War soldiers?
I use fold3 and have used ancestry.com. I use the microfilm at the local library for census records sometimes and we also have a genealogical library nearby. If you can find a small genealogical library or society in the town your ancestors came from, you sometimes hit a gold mind. If not, usually those people can at least steer you in the right direction. I think Fold3 is in the process of getting more Federal info. The southern information is not as extensive. This is just a guess of why they don't have as much Yank info.
