Sorry, I did a quick search for the demo and that's some of what I found.

As for your question about any suggestions I might have for older computers, can't really say I'd be of much help. To date I've only owned and played a grand total of four Civil War themed computer games. Two, the second and fouth to be more precise, I mentioned in my initial post. The first one was called Civil War BattleGame I got back when 5 1/2" disks were the disks to have. Very basic game with the graphics requiring a CGA or better video card. Graphics themseves were C for a calvary unit, A for artillery, I for infantry, and either S or G for ship or gunboat (it's been well over a decade since I've even been able to play the game so I don't remember exactly what letter was used for the gunboats for the Shiloh battle). Little dots all over the screen for where you could move, astericks for trees, and I think either O or equal marks for water.

Third game I owned was Sid Meier's  Antietam, but it's been several years since I last played it. So I don't remember it being RTS, but I'll take your word for it.

As for the other two, both are for Windows 95 or Windows 3.1, both developed by a company called Impressions and produced by a company called Sierra. Don't know what other folks think of them, but I like them. They are turn based, I normally play against the computer and after I get done moving all my pieces, or attacking with my pieces, I have to wait for the computer to do the same thing. Both use Mort Kunstler's artwork for credits before you even get into the game. A feature I like of both is that they have a kind of mini encyclopedia on aspects of the war. It's pretty much geared at folks who don't know much about the war and kids who are studying the war in school, especially the latter. Civil War 2 also lets you create your own battles so you can make up something that never occured during the war (like say the Army of Northern Virginia laying siege to Boston), alternate versions of actual battles (maybe having Picket's Brigade stike somewhere else at Gettysburg rather than where they actually struck), or actual battles that might not have made it into the game (like say the Battle of Roanoke Island, something I've been looking at doing).

Again, I'm probably not someone to take advice from on the games as I've played so few. What I like and what someone else likes are completely different. And I'm not so sure if you could find Robert E. Lee: Civil War General or Grant, Lee, Sherman: Civil War 2 Generals without hitting ebay or someplace that might sell them used. I was lucky to get the first one for either my birthday or Christmas about '96 or '97 and the sequel I got from a bargin bin at the local Staples a few years ago. And even that was a bit of a hunt.
