I think Hancock needs a new full biography. My boys in the 64th NY expressed universal respect for him in thier letters, diaries, and post war writings. One issue I have never seen adressed is Hancock's quiet replacement of Caldwell post Gettysburg. At National Archives I found a hand written note from Hancock to Meade refering to Caldwell, dated March 23, 1864, which reads in part "Not fit to command a division.....lacks self reliance at critical times" Meade indorsed it "agreed" Does the book adress this? I look foreward to reading this new book. Dennis Conklin
