 Thank you. I wrote a book about the regiment he later commanded, the 2nd Massachusetts Cavalry. Bear Flag and Bay State in the Civil War: The Californians of the Second Massachusetts Cavalry.

You can also find an outstanding biography of Lowell by Carol Bundy titled The Nature of Sacrifice. http://www.carolbundy.com/ She is a wonderful writer and a great tour guide as well. She gave me a civil war tour of Boston a few years ago that was really cool. Civil war Boston, who knew?
