Aww Doc, I just say things like that to get under David W.'s skin Honestly though, I really think the reason some people (I include myself) don't watch college, even though they're football fans, is the lack of a play-off system. I guess all you college fans understand the BCS thing, but I sure don't. Seems playoff's would be fairer, not to mention enormously profitable. And let's face it, college ball (like the pro's) is about nothing but money. So what's the objection from those in power, or from the fans?

I love college football, but don't have a clue about the BCS. There's a good story in this week's Sports Illustrated about the need for a Division I playoff system (there are playoffs in each of the other NCAA divisions) that essentially points to the Rose Bowl people as the primary reason for blocking the prospect of a playoff system. Seems there's too much tradition (not to mention money) involved for those folks to change. The best line in the story came from playoff proponents who said they can't believe that the possibility are having a playoff system is being held hostage by the Rose Bowl Parade. There's also a good story on Brett Farve in this issue, SI's sportsman of the year. I've always been a Farve fan, but this story confirms why. His work with the Make-A-Wish Foundation, among other things, is compelling.

I have spoken with Big 10 fans who said that they would rather see their team in the Rose Bowl than the BCS Championship game. To me that is like saying you would rather see your favorite baseball team in the Hall of Fame game in Cooperstown than the World Series. http://groups.yahoo.com/group/20thMass Last edited on Sat Dec 8th, 2007 04:10 pm by 20th_Mass |

So Javal, see what happens when you crawl around under my skin, I crash your whole site. You going to mess with me anymore? The fans don't oppose a playoff; it's the Bowls and College Presidents who oppose it. I think they will come around in 2015 when the Rose Bowl's contract ends. This season alone shows the BCS doesn't really work when there is no dominating team. But does a playoff really work either? The hot hand usually wins in a playoff not necessarily the team whose whole body of work for a season is most impressive. Look at how many wild card teams win it all in pro baseball and football.
