Bryson, I don't know, but probably the Confederates were removed quickly.

I'm going on a tour of 1st Manassas on May 3, and will ask our guide.

That tour of 1st Manassas in May is sponsored by a preservation organization, the Friends of Fort Ward in Alexandria, VA.  We're also hitting Ball's Bluff.

I haven't been out to Manassas for at least a year.  I understand they're doing a lot of tree removal to restore its appearance in 1861.

For a good look at 1st Manassas, check Harry's blog at bullrunnings@wordpress.com. (Hope I got that right. If I didn't get it right, google bullrunnings.) Harry knows about all there is to know about Manassas.
