If you go to Cajun country the little town of Eunice is a must . The National Park dedicated to Cajuns is here next to the Liberty Theater .  Down the street are two small treasures.

Several years ago when I was there I was headed to the Cajun music hall of fame.  As I got out of my car I was greeted by an elderly lady on the porch of the museum next door .  She asked me if I was coming to her museum.  What could I say?  I made a left turn from my orginal destination and said, "Oh, sure ."

This museum is the Eunice city museum.  Mrs. Petrie I believe her name was  is the head of the museum.  It was a rainy spring day.  I must have been the first person there that day.  She showed me everything in the museum.  It is one of those museums stuffed with everything .

Some of the items are real treasures.  The Madi Gras costumes for a very different kind of Madi Gras than in New Orleans.  She also had tapes of various Cajun music concerts.  She invited me to pull up a rocking chair and watch a video.  I did .

Turns out the lady is the widow of a hall of fame Cajun fiddler .

The Cajun hall of fame next door had his fiddle in their museum.  It too is worth visiting . Especially if you like Cajun music.

Susan

Ltkepper, I hope the museum is still there with Mrs. Petrie running it . Actually she ran the city museum .  The Hall of Fame is next door.  Was such a fun place to visit.  The Liberty Theatre is just down the street and the Cajun National Park headquarters is right there too.  I too love Cajun music.  Have Mamou Playboys on my ipod.
