As of today, Haywood County and probably most of Buncombe County (Asheville) North Carolina is out of gasoline.

In Waynesville NC, ALL of the gas stations are out of fuel.  Asheville is out also.  People are driving 60 to 70 miles away to find fuel.  The shut down of the pipelines from Texas due to Hurricane Ike has created shortages.  Delivery of fuel to this area will be sporatic for the next week.

If you are traveling on I-40 through this area, get fuel about 100 miles before passing through this area for the next week to be on the safe side.

I'm traveling to Ohio via Kentucky tomorrow.  I hope there is gas in KY.  If not I am going to be sitting on the side of the road.

Anyone know of shortages in KY?

Thanks for the tips. I hadn't heard about these shortages until now, and they couldn't have come at a better time for me as I'm off to Virginia next week. There had better be some fuel for the car else I'll have to pack my brogans if I want to get to all the battlefields I plan to visit.

Don't come to Georgia. There isn't any gas here either.

I have searched the local news websites of the large towns or cities that I will be traveling near in KY.  I have found no mention of shortages in KY.  I also called my niece in Richmond KY.  She is not aware of any shortages in her area.

Kernow-Ox - google a few Virginia cities near to your travels and see if the headlines mention any shortages.  That may answer any questions you have about fuel availability on your travels.  By the way, have a great time on your trip too.  Which battlefields are you planning to visit?

This is the pipeline having problems, so it's cities near it that are most likely to be having shortages.

My friend in South Carolina said they are limiting purchase to ten gallons in Florence . First time in ages gas in California is cheaper than the east coast.
