Folks - This may be old news for some, but I had no idea that the 1927 silent film "The General" was available online (free) . The synopsis for the movie reads: Union solders have stolen The General, a Confederate train manned by Johnnie Gray, who was unable to enlist in the Confederate army because he is needed as an engineer. The Union plans to use the train to supply its soldiers in a sneak attack against the Confederates. But now it's up to Gray and his love, Annabelle Lee, to reclaim The General, recross enemy lines, and warn the Confederates. The General based on a real incident during the American Civil War when a posse of northern soldiers hijacked a confederate train and a lone southern engineer found himself fighting the lot of them alone. Director: Buster Keaton, Clyde Bruckman Producer: Buster Keaton, Joseph M. Schenck Audio/Visual: silent, black & white You can watch it (or download it) at: http://www.archive.org/stream/TheGeneral/The_General_64kb.mp4 (for dial-up connections) http://www.archive.org/stream/TheGeneral/The_General_256kb.mp4 (for broadband)

This is one of my favorite movies although it has little to do with the actual events of the Great Locomotive Chase. Buster Keaton is worth the whole film , that on top of the "special effects" before special effects were created with computers. Keaton was a genius . Thanks for the information Susan
