I am researching Civil War family history in which my ancestor was killed by guerrillas while he was coming home in Ky on a leave. Some family say this was called a turn leave, in which a soldier could provide for his family. The phrase implied food provisions such as a turn of flour. I can't seem to track down this phrase. Any ideas?

A person mentioned that Union soldiers, in KY anyway, were allowed to go home during the harvest season for a few days? Would anyone have any info on this?
