We are thinking of going down to Charleston, SC the weekend of April 8th, 2011 to commemorate the 150th anniversary of the firing on Ft. Sumter. Does anyone know of any special events going on down there? I would imagine that this will be a very special weekend to be in town and there will be activities planned all over the city. Does anyone know about this weekend?

Don't know of any at the moment but I would contact the National Park Service at the Fort Sumter park headquarters . They would be the ones that would know . You could also contact the Visitors Center which is a really good source for all things Charleston . Susan

Thanks for the tips. We plan one Civil War themed trip a year, and Charleston is a fun city. It would be great if they really do it up down there for the 150th. I'd love to see the town all decked out for the occasion.

As a Tar Heel who has the advantage of knowing how the war turned out, I would say that Charleston should drape itself in black on that anniversary. As we look back, the war is seen as a mistake and it devastated our Southland.
