Whoops, Treaveler! It seems I have unwittingly hijacked your post and posted a similar notice about the Civil War cruise on another thread below. Furthermore, your post features a lovely rendition of the actual steamboat being used for the cruise. I apologize for stepping on your toes on this one. Anyway, I still find the fare very steep, especially given the cost of flying or driving to the home port. That said, I don't know if the price is steep compared to other typical river cruises. If I were to win the Lotto, I would not hesitate to do this cruise. It would be a fascinating fifteen days.

Traveler- While browsing the forum today, it occured to me that I had overlooked the fact that you had taken the name of Jefferson Davis' dog. Interesting. Traveler - Find A Grave Memorial

Wasn't Traveler also the name of Robert E Lee's horse?

CleburneFan- Robert E. Lee's horse was Traveller, spelled with two Ls. Traveller (horse) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia Here is a detailed bio of the horse, including the stories of his sad end and the shameful treatment of his remains. Thank you for that. I guess I never paid sufficient attention to the exact spelling. Traveller must have suffered greatly with the tetanus. It is too bad his remains were shown so little respect. I wonder if anyone has written a book about the great horses and mules of the Civil War. Last edited on Fri Nov 30th, 2012 12:22 am by CleburneFan |

CleburneFan- Here is one about Civil War horses. (Published in 2011). I've never seen it, so I don't know if its any good or not. Famous Horses Of The Civil War: Fairfax Downey, Frederick T. Chapman: 97812580 There is also a book devoted to Traveller himself written by Richard Adams. Apparently, its a whimsical narrative of the war's events as told by the horse. Its cover is shown on the page on the link above. Last edited on Fri Nov 30th, 2012 01:45 am by Texas Defender |

Again, many thanks, but, whoo, Daddy, that book costs $32.00! I love the idea of the book about Traveller that is told by him. Great idea for a childrens' book. Well, maybe not. I reckon Traveller saw sights and experienced things children should not be exposed to.

Many of the participants in that war were children themselves. Boys In The Civil War Last edited on Fri Nov 30th, 2012 02:08 am by Texas Defender |
