CW Nut - the Lincoln Home in VT is worth a trip and I agree the armory is impressive.
Grangan - I to like first person accoounts. Historians interpet these, meaning that they use thier biases to screen relevant and irrelvant info. When I read material first hand I only have to worry about my own biases.
Grangran, try Patricia B. Mitchell's Civil War cookbook samplers. Yes, they are cookbooks (and not always period recipes), but she does include diary entries from soldier and civilians in them so they are a little more than simple cookbooks.
