I looked at a list of Congressional Medal of Honor recipients from Gettysburg. I saw that 6 were awarded to men who all took place in an action which I had not heard of before as part of the battle of Gettysburg. They stormed a "loghouse" or "longhouse" near Devil's Den which was occupied by Confederate sharpshooters. Has anyone else heard of this and why isn't this part of the battle tour/why haven't I seen this building near Devil's Den? The list is part of Gettysburg National Park's website.

I think that is referring to the original Trostle homestead that was being dismantled at the time of the battle after Trostle had completed the wood frame house.

Those 6 MOH winners were members of the 6th PA Reserves. The 6th's monument is near (150-200 yards or so SW) the J. Weikert house. It's generally accepted that the "log cabin" in question was one of the 1863 J. Weikert outbuildings somewhere in the vicinity of the "D. A. 140 P. V." rock carving that marks the initial burial site of Capt. David Acheson.

Well, that is interesting, since I will be staying at the Weickert House for a week next July.

Regina: That ought to be very interesting and pertinent to your original question. (Where is the green-with-envy emoticon?) Ole

I have all DVDs, Blue Rays and books around that part of your history and i really enjoy it to get "lost" in that time. So thumbs up from germany for "last full measure" becomes the movie that it deserves. not even because of the good books and movies that had done yet, also because of the great history you had.
