Cleburne Fan-

I think the best that we can do is ask ourselves: "Was that action reasonable based on the standards of the day?" Sometimes, its not so easy to answer that question, even after years of trying to understand the 19th century mindset.

I was at an reeactment yesterday morning so missed the interview.  Would have loved to have seen it .  Our book discussion group at the Drum is reading that book in October .  I have it here and can't wait to read it.  That is one of the reasons I am reading Kit Carson and the Indians.  Didn't get any eading done yesterday either as I came home and after having dinner and a shower chatted on Civil War discussion group a while and  I was sound asleep right away .

It is going to be another hot hot day today California gets it's worst heat in September and October .  May have to go find a cool movie theatre to while away the day in.

Fran thanks for the "warning " about recliner.

So wierd about the comment from the man about such a movie ruining Romneys campaign Cleburne, but then this is a wierd, crazy time we live in politically speaking. I can see the trend towards bias in hollywood though-I don't think they will make a movie about the dangers of extreme atheism anytime soon...

But then, the author of God is not great is a leading proponet of atheism, and he supports the Iraq war when some would have us believe it is only right wing nutjob warmongering christians that support Bush and the war- as well as those who would have you believe it is only atheist commy pansies that oppose it? See what I mean,  depressing - like all politics seems to be of late.

I don't think I will go see this movie, but then I tend to shy away from most major hollywood "historical dramas"...

As far as everything you say and do on the internet being recorded? I think I will take my chances and continue posting untill the PC police knock down my or your door. Then we'll hit the hills, we'll gather all the posters on this board together, and using hit and run tactics, waging a guerilla war for our freedom Cleburne. lets just hope it doesn't come to that...oh crap, now they know our plans! We'll just have to post our plan B on another thread I guess lol.

I haven't seen the movie so it's not really fair for me to be on this thread but I made the post earlier to add the link to the article from the mag.  It's been nice to see others take interest and of all people, you guys would be the first to talk about this "historical" movie.  The people in the LDS community do not deny the horrific event took place.  Many of us enjoy studying the history of our church.  I imagine many of you, just like me,  take what you see or read and continue your studies to form your opinions, from hopefully more than one point of view.  Mr Romney isn't deep enough into the race to cause such a stir just yet.  Just a warning if he does though... the press might release illicit info about him avoiding alcohol and spending every Monday night playing board games with his family.  Dang them Mormons.

Here's something not everyone on here can claim...My great grandpa used to tell me stories of him as a child watching his mom hang a sheet up on her ceiling to seperate the small house they shared with his dad's other wife and kids.  The two wives weren't very fond of eachother and would throw trash onto the other woman's side.  They were of course, due to laws made, the last generation of polygamists in my family.  I think they were the only in my family actually. Laws were made and they were on the run from then on out basically.  What was the husband suppose to do?  Abandon one family to be with the other?  I'm not a Fundalmentalist by the way.  My husband says one is plenty.

Uh oh--google "Mormon" and "Fuller" pops up? :D sweet

Funny stuff, I can't keep one wife happy so I can't imagine keeping two happy. Besides, how many fewer CW books could I buy if a second wife were eating up the necessary funds?  Plus having to hear two wives ask, "How many CW books can one person need, especially when you haven't read the last ones you bought yet"?  Two wives-- hell on earth I tell you!!

Funny stuff David. Any man who can keep more than one wife has my admiration and respect. I am very fond of mine, but keeping on her good side can sometimes be a bit trying. Can't imagine keeping on the good side of another at the same time!

Hey now, to even this conversation a bit we have to give props to all the ladies who were smart enough to realize it took several of 'em to deal with the hubby.  Double, triple, quadruple team the old man?  Look at how many Brigham needed to keep things straight!  It's all about teamwork.  Keeping the men folk in line is how I see it.  So there.  (That's me with my tounge stuck out by the way)

:)

Actually maybe I will take on a "sister-wife" to help out with the cooking and the housework...

Very sexist, Fuller, but also probably quite realistic. This might be the classic case of viewing the past with a modern mind. Personally, I've never seen the logic of making polygamy illegal. I couldn't cope with more than one spouse, but if the guys and gals can, it's no pain for me.

Susan:

I repectfully disagree, there is no such thing as "too many" Civil War books.  I would believe in the Chupacabra and polygamy before I would accept that statement. ;)

Now, how do I convince my wife of that "undisputable fact"?

Coincidentally, I did see a news item this week about a pig-like creature found dead in Texas that locals believe is an actual "chupacabra." !!!!

I'm sorry , David , did the words too many and books come out of my computer ??? It must have been my evil twin typing that statement.  I would never say I had too many books.  I was the teacher the kids called Book Lady .  You can never have too many books.

Ignore that post .  It had to be the evil twin.

Yes, that story inspired my reply, here it is (beware graphic picture of dead thing I think looks like a wild dog or mutant coyote).

http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,295481,00.html

What's unusual is Chupacbra sightings normally occur down by the border and this one is just down the road from me at the home of the Gobblers, Cuero.  Could he have been attacking the local turkeys?

Susan:

LOL, get that evil twin under control, no blasphemy allowed!

Dave I stepped over a pile of books and bashed her a good one.  No more statements like that again ever .  Right now I am trying to make a data base of my books by subject.  Long over due to be done.  I hate when I buy the same book twice which is what led to this crazy idea to enter them into a data base on the computer.

MS Access works for me, but you might want to look into librarything.com. Might be your answer.

My word data base program is working okay for me , I can define the fields I want inthe data base.  I like the program on librarything , interesting , but not spending anymoney to do this .  Kind of fun to review each book as I enter it .  Some are such old friends.

Just to update everyone on the Chupacabra we had down here, looks like I nailed it, it was just an ugly (not Wylie) coyote:
